Aw. Paterson et Ak. Whitfield, THE FISHES ASSOCIATED WITH AN INTERTIDAL SALT-MARSH CREEK IN THE KARIEGA ESTUARY, SOUTH-AFRICA, Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa, 51, 1996, pp. 195-218
Fish were collected from Taylor's intertidal salt marsh creek using a
blocknet from July 1992 to May 1994. The ichthyofaunal assemblage was
dominated by juvenile euryhaline marine species, with the mugilids bri
ne the most important taxon. High variability in both the numbers and
mass of fishes was found both on an annual and seasonal basis. Despite
this variability, seasonal trends for a number of species were appare
nt. The standing stock and density of fish found on Taylor's intertida
l salt marsh creek fell within the range of reported values for other
estuarine habitats.
