Abstract
Indication of myringotomy for acute otitis media has changed over year s. Because of increasing antimicrobial resistance, myringotomy is now mainly used for diagnosis purposes. This requires stopping antibiotics for 48 hours and performing myringotomy under strict antiseptic condi tions. The use of myringotomy to relieve pain and fever has become que stionable, although this point needs to be developed.
