Calves with diarrhea are still a major field of work for a practicing veter
inarian. New aspects in pathophysiology, nutrition and food technology have
lead to the development of complex diatetic drinks. The restrictive attitu
de concerning antibiotics in practice have increased interest in so called
probiotics. Pharmaceutical industry has been open for the development of su
pplemental and diatetic food. The practicing veterinarian has the responsib
ility for qualified client education and use of this option. This paper has
the goal to help the practicing veterninarian in this field.
