The {Mo-3(mu(3)-S)(mu(2)-S-2)(3)[(C2H5)(2)NCS2](3)}(+){M[eta(5)-(3)-1,2-C2B
9H11](2)}(-) [M = Fe(III), Co(III), or Ni(III)] compounds were synthesized.
A comparative study of the compounds was performed by IR, Raman, B-11 NMR,
UV, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. In the crystal state, the anio
n and cation are linked by the hydrogen bond S-H-B, whose strength increase
s in the order [Ni(C2B9H11)(2)](-)(d(7)) < [Co(C2B9H11)(2)](-)(d(6)) < [Fe(
C2B9H11)(2)](-)(d(5)).
