Abstract
Three tribes are recognized for the New World Ceratocanthinae: Ceratocanthi ni Martinet, Scarabatermitini Nikolajev, and Ivieolini, new tribe. Characte rs separating the Ceratocanthinae from its sister taxon, the Hybosorinae, a re outlined. The tribes of the Ceratocanthinae and their included genera ar e described, and keys and appropriate illustrations are included, One new g enus, Aulisostes, is proposed, Haroldostes Paulian is reduced to a subgenus of Germarostes Paulian, and Belloanopsiostes Vaz de Mello is placed in syn onymy with Astaneomoechus Martinet and Pereira. Two new species are describ ed, Astaenomoechus andersoni from Venezuela and Ivieolus brooksi from Frenc h Guiana. A number of new combinations are proposed; these are listed in th e Addendum which contains a list of all New World genera and species of Cer atocanthinae described through June, 1999, Some of the Ceratocanthinae are termitophilous.
