The problem of static optimization, taking into account multiple stationary
states of the controlled object, is considered. The emphasis is on determi
ning whether there may exist among the stationary points in the state space
of a dynamical system such topological types as a stable and unstable "nod
e," "focus," or "center." An algorithm is developed for distinguishing betw
een the stable and the unstable stationary points in the course of performi
ng the iterative process of searching for an optimal solution.
