Abstract
Mandelate racemase [EC 5.1.2.2] from Pseudomonas putida ATCC 12336 was effi ciently immobilized through ionic binding onto DEAE- and TEAE 23-cellulose. The activity of the immobilized enzyme was significantly enhanced as compa red to the native protein, i.e., 2.7- and 2.5-fold, respectively. DEAE-cell ulose-immobilized mandelate racemase could be efficiently used in repeated batch reactions for the racemization of (R)-mandelic acid under mild condit ions.
