K. Okuda et al., Successful control with bromide of two patients with malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy, BRAIN DEVEL, 22(1), 2000, pp. 56-59
A 3-month-old male and a 4-month-old female infant with intractable seizure
s were diagnosed as having malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy
(MMPSI) with developmental arrest on the basis of characteristics of sympto
ms, clinical courses and EEGs. We treated these two patients with potassium
bromide (80 mg/kg) after conventional antiepileptic drugs failed to adequa
tely control the seizures. The potassium bromide therapy resulted in comple
te control of seizures in one patient, and more than 95% reduction in seizu
re frequency in the other. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserv
