New high-field proton relaxation measurements are satisfactorily interprete
d without any adjustable parameter by a theoretical model based on the Solo
mon relaxation formalism and on the relative translational Brownian diffusi
on of the cation pair. Thus, at least in this frequency range, the longitud
inal electron relaxation times of Gd3+ longer than the translational correl
ation time of the interionic diffusion, in agreement with the EPR studies o
f Merbach's group (Helv. Chim. Acta 76 (1993) 2129), but in contradiction w
ith Dinesen's and Bryant's conclusion (Chem. Phys. Lett. 303 (1999) 187). (
