The electrorheological (ER) behaviour of the cellulose phosphate ester susp
ension in silicone oil was investigated. Cellulose phosphate ester suspensi
on showed a typical ER response (Bingham flow behaviour) upon application o
f an electric field. The shear stress for the cellulose phosphate ester sus
pension exhibited a linear dependence on the volume fraction of particles a
nd the dependence with a factor equal to 1.41 power on the electric field.
The experimental results for the cellulose phosphate ester suspension corre
lated with the conduction model of Tang et al., and this suspension behaved
as an ER fluid. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
