Abstract
D-002 is a natural mixture of higher aliphatic primary alcohols purified fr om beeswax and has experimentally proven mild antiinflammatory and effectiv e antiulcer effects. it reduces leukotrienes in the exudate of carrageenan- induced pleurisy and has a protective effect on the preulcerative phase of carrageenan-induced colonic ulceration in the guinea pig. This study was co nducted to compare the effect of D-002 and sulfasalazine on acetic acid-ind uced colitis in rats administered at 1, 5.25 and 700 mg kg(-1), 24 h before colitis induction, Significant reductions in wet weight, macroscopic injur y: polymorphonuclear infiltration and wail thickness were observed in the c olonic mucosa of D-002 and sulfasalazine-treated animals compared with cont rols, except at the dose of I mg kg(-1), ii was concluded that the effects of D-002 and sulfasalazine were comparable in this experimental model.
