W. Runde et al., Single crystal and solution complex structure of Nd(CO3)(4)(5-). The firstcharacterization of a mononuclear lanthanide(III) carbonate complex, INORG CHEM, 39(6), 2000, pp. 1050
Carbonate is generally a strongly complexing ligand for f-element ions, inc
luding trivalent lanthanides. The few lanthanide(III) carbonates previously
characterized have extended multidimensional solid stare structures. Spect
roscopic and solubility studies indicate that the solution species are mono
meric; however, structural details remain unknown. We report the first sing
le-crystal structure of a discrete mononuclear Nd(III) carbonate, the guani
dinium salt of Nd(CO3)(4)(H2O)(5-), which corresponds directly to a species
formed in highly concentrated carbonate solutions.
