Abstract
A new associated pumping mechanism for masers in regions of star formation is presented, giving a unified interpretation for both H2O and OH interstel lar masers. A very wide range of photons contributes to this mechanism, thu s sufficient numbers of photons are available. A reasonable mechanism for t he regeneration of interstellar H2O and OH molecules is presented. Therefor e this model overcomes several drawbacks of former radiative mechanisms. It is both simple and compatible with astronomical conditions.
