The surface of indium tin oxide (ITO) and graphite+polymer composite electr
odes can be modified by Nafion(R) films containing a little amount of dispe
rsed electroactive substances, such as phthalocyanines. This procedure allo
ws electroanalytical information on the electroactive deposited substance t
o be obtained. The preparative methods of these type of modified electrodes
are discussed from voltammetric results in this work. The proposed equival
ent circuit explains the voltammetric differences between these electrodes.
The Nafion(R) net acts as a permeable membrane to the hydrogen ions. Besid
es, the presence of methylviologen within the Nafion(R) film makes the elec
tron transport throughout this membrane easy. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd
