Abstract
The powder samples of Ba4In1.98Nd0.02O7 and Ba4In1.98Er0.02O7 were prepared from stoichiometric amounts of oxides by solid state reaction. The X ray e xamination confirmed the presence of a single phase with lattice parameters a=4.164 Angstrom, c=29.350 Angstrom. Luminescence spectra of Nd3+ and Er3 recorded at room temperature and 5 K have been analysed. The energies of l ow-lying crystal field levels and splitting of several multiplets of Nd3+ a nd Er3+ ions have been estimated. Application of these compounds as potenti al luminescence materials was discussed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
