Abstract
New compounds derived from 3-halo-2,6-lutidine N-oxides were synthesized as potential precursors to light-conversion molecular materials. The synthesi s, chemical characterisation and spectroscopic studies of the six-coordinat e praseodymium(III) complex with the bromide derivative are reported. IR an d Raman spectra were measured and are discussed in terms of the possible st ructure and composition of this compound. The electronic absorption, emissi on and excitation spectra were recorded and analysed. The P-3(o)-->H-3(4,5, 6) emissions were observed. Selective excitation in the UV region was used to assign the energy levels of Pr3+ in this complex. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scie nce S.A. All rights reserved.
