Abstract
The scintillation mechanism in LuAlO3:Ce is in the main based on radiative recombination of electron-hole pairs via Ce3+. Although there are favorable conditions for a nonradiative energy transfer to Ce3+ from excitons respon sible for host emission, in fact this process is insignificant. Results of spectroscopic experiments and detailed analysis of emission pulse shapes ar e presented to support this statement. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All r ights reserved.
