M. Mut et al., Intraparenchymal meningioma originating from underlying meningioangiomatosis - Case report and review of the literature, J NEUROSURG, 92(4), 2000, pp. 706-710
The authors present the case of a 20-year-old woman with right-sided tempor
al intraparenchymal meningioma originating from underlying meningioangiomat
osis. The patient manifested temporal-type seizures as the initial symptom.
She had no stigmata of neurofibromatosis Type 2. Neuroradiological studies
revealed an intraaxial, contrast-enhancing lesion in the right temporal lo
be. After gross-total removal of the tumor, histological examination reveal
ed a transitional meningioma with surrounding neural parenchyma and feature
s of meningioangiomatosis. Although there were no signs of anaplasia, necro
sis, or increased mitosis, tumor islands were observed in the adjacent neur
opil. The rare association of meningioangiomatosis and meningioma is discus
sed, along with radiological and surgical findings.
