It has been shown that the narrowband (NB) interference suppression capabil
ity of a direct sequence (DS) spread spectrum system can be enhanced consid
erably by processing the received signal via a subspace based prediction er
ror filter. In this paper, a new interference-suppression method utilizing
a subspace-based interpolation error filter is presented. The performance o
f DS spread spectrum communication systems in the presence of NB interferen
ce is studied when linear interpolation filters are employed for the estima
tion and-subsequent suppression of the interference. The advantages of line
ar interpolation filters over linear prediction filters with an identical n
umber of taps are examined. (C) 2000 The Franklin Institute. Published by E
