This review examines the mechanisms by which bacteria influence the antigen
ic processing of endogenous and exogenous antigens presented by class I, cl
ass II, and nonclassical MHC molecules. Consequent effects on presentation
of bacterial antigens, the ability of bacteria to evade host defences, and
the potential induction of autoimmunity are discussed. (C) 2000 Editions sc
