Aspects of the development of information systems on the basis of XML and RDF

XML and RDF facilitate the electronic processing of information. The paper gives a short introduction into the basics of the new standards XML and RDF and describes the possibilities and limits of these standards from an info rmation professional point of view. Examples of implementations of XML / RD F components for future information systems are presented. Economic, politi cal and legal consequences of the use of XML and RDF will be given cursory consideration. Information professionals will be confronted with new tasks and responsibilities concerning the further development of XML and RDF.
