Reducing the cost of terminals for the optical PDS system

We have reduced the cost of terminals used for the optical Passive Double S tar (PDS) system developed to promote the opticalization of access networks . By redesigning the structure of the Narrow-band Subscriber Line Terminal (N-SLT), we reduced its cost by about 40%. We also reduced the cost of the Narrow-band Optical Network Unit (N-ONU) by about 50%. Moreover, by changin g the transmission technology used for the video service, we were able to r educe the cost of terminals for the video distribution PDS system by 50%. W e introduced this cheaper system in December 1998.
