Stopping powers of havar for Si-28,Si-30-, Ar-36-, Fe-54,Fe-56- and Kr-80,K
r-84-ions with energies of 1.6, 2.3 and 3.2 MeV/u have been determined by a
transmission technique. Sample foils are exposed to the direct beams. No p
revious data for havar with these ions have been published. The obtained re
sults are brought together with literature havar data for H-1-, He-4-, Li-7
-, B-11-, C-12-, N-14-, O-16- and I-127-ions at the same ion velocity. The
experimental data are compared with the values predicted by the SRIM-2000 p
arametrization using Bragg's rule. A systematic underestimation, by 6-23%,
of the experimental stopping powers was observed. The empirical correction
scheme of Thwaites has been applied to the stopping power values obtained b
y the parametrization. The corrected values agree well with the present res
ults. Also, the effective charge values of the various ions were deduced fr
