Abstract
[GRAPHICS] As part of an investigation into new synthetic routes to poly(peri-naphthal ene), the synthesis and cycloaromatization of tetraethynylbiphenyls is desc ribed. The temperature dependent cyclization of biphenyls containing unsubs tituted alkynes provides the desired perylene in good yield.
