Abstract
We consider, in the framework of the inverse scattering method, the so lution of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation in its version called KP I. The spectral theory is extended to the case in which the initial da ta u(x, y) are not vanishing along a finite number of directions at la rge distances on the plane.
