Abstract
Allylation of 5-methylfurfural with allyl halide and zinc was performed by using quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts as phase-transfer catalysts . The phosphonium salt showed higher activity than the ammonium salt. Excel lent yields were obtained with both catalysts.
