Edward Nicholas is the pseudonym of a Jewish author, who published in 1648
at London "An Apology for the Honorable Nation of the Jews", which pleads f
or the return of the Jews to England, where they were expelled from 1290. T
he reason is that the Jews are profitable for the Republic, honourable and
beloved by God. In 1649 a Spanish version appeared in Amsterdam. The author
was probably Menasseh Ben Israel. The hypothesis is that the English versi
on was published after the Spanish version.
