Abstract
The bioaccumulation of aluminium, copper, iron and zinc in the freshwater f ish, Labeo umbratus, occurring in Witbank Dam (situated in the Upper Olifan ts River Catchment) was investigated. Metal concentrations in the gills, li ver, muscle and skin of L. umbratus showed large variation during the study period, February 1994 to May 1995. The highest metal concentrations were u sually detected in the gills and liver of specimens. The lowest metal conce ntrations were found in either the muscle or skin tissue.
