Abstract
The ac loss plays an important role in the design of electro-technical comp onents based on high-temperature superconductors. It is important to have r eliable techniques for the measurements of the ac loss under application-li ke conditions. This paper contains a comparison between the ac loss results obtained with a calorimetric measurement method and those obtained with an electromagnetic measurement method. The measurements were performed on a B i-2223 silver-sheathed non-twisted multi-filamentary tape. The sample was e xposed to combinations of an ac transport current and an ac applied magneti c field (oriented perpendicular or parallel to the tape surface). The resul ts obtained with the two measuring methods show good agreement with each ot her.
