Easily melt-processed polyimides with the structure of a semi-interpenetrat
ing network based on poly(ether imide) and two bis(maleimides) containing a
fragment of 4,4'-bis(4 "-aminophenoxy)diphenyl sulfone were synthesized. B
y varying the ratio between the initial components, [bis(maleimide) and pol
y(etherimide)], and the chemical structure of bis(maleimide), one may contr
ol the supermolecular and phase structures of polymers produced upon therma
l solidification. Application of the synthesized polymers as binding agents
allowed preparation of carbon plastics which combine an improved toughness
of interlaminar fracture with a high level of strength properties and heat
resistance.
