This study Mas conducted to develop a low-cost, precise metering device for
automated nutrient-solution mixing systems. The metering device consisted
of a supply pump, cylinder level sensors, and a solenoid valve. The level o
f solution irt the cylinder was kept constant to maintain a uniform dischar
ge rare. The supply anti discharge of the solution was controlled with a mi
crocomputer Test results indicate that the deviation in accuracy for the fo
ur metering devices developed was +/-0.3%, which is significantly less than
that of commercial metering pumps.
