Abstract
5-Gbit/s, 38.5-km soliton transmission was accomplished by employing n ormal-dispersion fiber with large dispersion. It was discovered that t he position of the large normal-dispersion fiber was very important fo r soliton transmission, and the soliton transmission could not be achi eved if the position of the normal-dispersion fiber was improper.
