Abstract
Al-Hg mediated chemoselective cleavage of the carbon-halogen bond of alpha- halocarboxylates allows for a facile and clean transformation of halohydrin aldol adducts into beta-hydroxy acid derivatives with no evidence of dehyd roxyhalogenation.
