Abstract
The synthesis of 13 new (E)-acetoxystilbenes and alpha,alpha-dibromoacetoxy bibenzyls and their antimicrobial activity are reported. The results of mic robiological screening of 17 (E)-stilbenols and (E)-acetoxystilbenes, unkno wn in the literature, have also been discussed. In particular, coumpounds 1 c, 1g, 2a, 3a, 3b, 4a, 6a, 6b showed good antibacterial activity against St aphylococcus aureus and 1c also against Bacillus subtilis. (C) 2000 Elsevie r Science S.A.
