Abstract
A new continuous process for the production of methyl chloride and methyl b romide from methanol and aqueous HCl/HBr in presence of a silica supported heteropoly acid catalyst has been described. The reaction takes place in th e vapour phase, and the conversion, selectivity and life of the catalyst ar e found to be excellent; the reaction parameters have been studied.
