During the past 5 years the International Society for the Study of Trophobl
astic Disease and the International Gynecological Cancer Society have moved
to modify the staging system for trophoblastic disease by combining the st
aging of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) w
ith the scoring system of the World Health Organization (WHO). By making si
gnificant changes in both, the classification will be more acceptable world
wide leading to uniform use by physicians reporting management results in t
rophoblastic disease. This is the report of the Rome Workshop, which will b
e presented for ratification to the FIGO Staging Committee in September 200
