For the case of discrete-time processing, two approaches are considered for
the estimation-correlation (EC) detection of arbitrary signals in the pres
ence of uncorrelated noise. Features of the synthesized algorithms and esti
mates that they employ are discussed. EC algorithms obtained by discretizat
ion of the continuous-time algorithms are explored. The performance of the
optimal and pseudooptimal detectors that use the filtering and extrapolatio
n estimates is compared.
