A uniquely configured and easily manufacturable piezoelectric microactuator
for hard disk drives is presented. The microactuator utilizes two piezoele
ctric stacks placed at the suspension-E block interface, resulting in a dis
placement of +/-1.0 mu m at the suspension tip. Each piezoelectric stack is
made up of 20 layers. For the dynamic behavior of the suspension to be ill
ustrated, static displacements were measured. In addition, a dynamic model
for the microactuator was constructed by using least-squares curve fitting
of a measured frequency response curve.
