Access to periodicals holdings information: creating links between databases and the library catalog

Providing users with a single source of information about all periodical ti tles available, regardless of source or format, is a high priority in many libraries. This article describes a project to extend the standard MARC-bas ed library catalog with links to periodical titles available from full-text aggregators. The project developed a process for creating and maintaining brief bibliographic records for these non-traditional periodical titles; it features automated record creation and maintenance, and makes use of innov ative local MARC tag definitions.
