Abstract
The production of four functional enzyme categories was investigated in 30 strains of Malassezia pachydermatis isolated from dogs with otitis or derma titis. The most appropriate reading intervals for these assays were determi ned with the aid of statistical comparisons. All strains produced proteinas e and chondroitin-sulphatase; hyaluronidase and phospholipase were produced by all skin isolates (15/15) and 14 out of 15 ear canal isolates. Strains from ear canals did not differ significantly as a group from skin strains i n quantitative production of any of the four enzymes; production of protein ase and chondroitin-sulphatase in particular was markedly uniform.
