Mf. Alam et al., ANALYSIS OF EXTERNAL OPTICAL FEEDBACK CHARACTERISTICS OF ASYMMETRIC, QUARTER-WAVE-SHIFTED, DISTRIBUTED-FEEDBACK SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS, Applied optics, 36(18), 1997, pp. 4131-4137
External optical feedback sensitivity is analyzed for a quarter-wave-s
hifted, index-coupled, distributed-feedback semiconductor laser with a
symmetries in reflectivity of facets and in the position of a lambda/4
phase shift. Proper asymmetric structures can withstand higher levels
of external optical feedback compared with symmetric structures. Howe
ver, the mode discrimination and yield are reduced for asymmetric lase
rs because of statistical variation of the corrugation phases at the r
eflecting facets. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America.
