Catalytic synthesis of dicyclopentadienylmagnesium

Formal kinetic relationships of dicyclopentadienylmagnesium formation in re action of magnesium with cyclopentadiene in THF in the presence of titanium derivatives as the catalysts were determined. The equilibrium constants an d ethalpies and entropies of adsorption of Ti(II) and Ti(III) compounds on the magnesium surface were determined. A number of intermediate reaction pr oducts were identified by ESR spectroscopy. The mechanism of dicyclopentadi enylmagnesium synthesis catalyzed by the titanium compounds was proposed.
