F. Ilinca et al., AN ADAPTIVE FINITE-ELEMENT SCHEME FOR TURBULENT FREE SHEAR FLOWS, International journal of computational fluid dynamics, 8(3), 1997, pp. 171-188
This paper presents an adaptive finite element method for solving inco
mpressible turbulent flows using the k-epsilon model of turbulence, So
lutions are obtained in primitive variables using a highly accurate qu
adratic finite element on unstructured grids. Turbulence is modeled us
ing the k-epsilon model. A projection error estimator is presented tha
t takes into account the relative importance of the errors in velocity
, pressure, turbulence variables and eddy viscosity. The methodology i
s verified by solving problems with known analytical solutions. The me
thod is then applied to turbulent free shear flows and predictions are
compared to experiment.
