Abstract
Research in exercise and pregnancy continues to demonstrate marked benefits for both mother and fetus; however, the type, intensity, frequency, and du ration of the exercise appear to be important determinants of its beneficia l effects. Maternal benefits include improved function and mental state, li mited weight gain, easier labor, quick recovery, and improved fitness. Feta l benefits include decreased body fat, improved stress tolerance, and advan ced neurobehavioral maturation. Currently, the offspring are leaner and app ear to have a better neurodevelopmental outcome.
