Abstract
Empirical experience shows that human experts determine suitable hybrids to grow in four steps. A general expert system prototype is built on the same principle, using an agent-oriented approach. The knowledge base consists o f several agents. Agents communicate using their own language and update th eir internal beliefs until a solution is reached. A general prototype is be ing used for the creation of an expert system prototype fbr the determinati on of optimal maize hybrids to grow. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rig hts reserved.
