Abstract
This paper deals with the tuning of observer-based estimators. Initially, t hese algorithms were designed for estimating on-line kinetic parameters, li ke specific growth rates, in bioprocesses, and have proved to be very succe ssful in practical applications. Here a systematic tuning approach that all ows a decoupled estimation of each parameter and the assignment of the esti mator dynamics independently of the process dynamics is proposed. The prese nted approach is illustrated on an animal cell culture example in numerical simulation and with real-life data. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rig hts reserved.
