Abstract
The crisis of the Indian polity we are witnessing today is essentially a re currence of what the country has experienced periodically almost at regular intervals in its long sweep of history. The disintegration of the imperial unities on numerous occasions in the past was because those who succeeded their creators failed to display the qualities and virtues necessary for nu rturing their inheritance, likewise, the post-independence generation has b een moving away from the spirit and ethos generated during the freedom move ment. In such condition, even India's resilience may prove to be too weak a gainst a continuing string of divisive policies and actions.
