Antennas, such as stacked patches, often employ low permittivity substrates
, such as foams, but these tend to be fragile and difficult to glue. The au
thors show that low permittivity materials may instead be synthesised by pe
rforating standard microwave substrates. Results from practical and numeric
al experiments are presented.
