Abstract
The effect of Pasteurella multocida toxin (PMT) produced by a toxigenic str ain of serotype A: 12 (goat strain) on vero cell monolayer was studied. The cytopathic effect was observed after 7 days of incubation at 37 degrees C under 5% carbon-dioxide tension. The minimum cytopathic dose of the toxin w as 5.8 mu g of the crude toxin. The study suggests that the cell culture (v ero cells) assay cart be adopted for detection and quantitation of toxin Fr om toxigenic strains of P. multocida.
