The reactions of [IrCl((Bu2PH)-P-t)(3)] (1) with the metal carbonyls [
M-3(CO)(12)] (M = Fe, Ru) in refluxing toluene have been investigated.
By using [Ru-3(CO)(12)] the metal cluster [Ru-3(CO)(8)(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)
-PBut)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (2) and the butterfly configured heterometallic c
luster )(7)(mu-H)(2)(mu-PBu2t)(2)((Bu2PH)-P-t)(mu(3)-Cl)] (3) were obt
ained. On the contrary, the reaction of 1 with [Fe-3(CO)(12)] leads un
der cluster degradation beside the mononuclear complex [Fe(CO)(4)((Bu2
PH)-P-t)] (5) to the known compound [FeIr(mu-CO)(CO)(4)(mu-PBu2t)((Bu2
PH)-P-t)] (4) in good yields. The molecular structures of 2 and 3 have
been determined by single crystal X-ray studies.
